Job summary

Baton Rouge General Medical Center seeks a compassionate Emergency Department Medical Assistant to join a high-energy team delivering lifesaving care under RN supervision. The role emphasizes teamwork, patient-focused service, and clinical safety in a fast-paced environment.

The position involves direct patient care, assisting with procedures, collecting specimens, monitoring vital signs, documenting care, restocking supplies, and supporting crisis de-escalation and safety protocols in the ED.

Qualifications

• Completion of a medical assistant, nursing assistant, phlebotomy, or EMT course.
• Certified Medical Assistant or 6 months of acute care ED experience or First Responder.
• Crisis prevention training required within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist in patient assessment and treatment under RN or physician direction.
• Provide direct care such as dressing applications, monitors, urine catheterizations, and prepping skin.
• Support specimen collection and transport per universal precautions.
• Aid in admission, discharge, and patient transfers.
• Participate in emergency response scenarios per BRGMC protocol.
• Assist patients with toileting needs and accompany them for procedures as needed.
• Support physicians during minor procedures and keep patients informed.
• Perform venipuncture after competency documentation and document care.
