Job summary

GRMC Garrett Regional Medical Center is seeking a patient care assistant to support licensed staff in a busy Emergency Department. The role includes direct and indirect patient care, specimen collection, and assisting with admissions, transfers, and discharges. Strong communication and flexibility are essential.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma and BLS certification within 30 days of hire. Preferred candidates have EMT/Paramedic licensure and ED experience.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
• Two years of college in nursing/biology or two years’ ED/pre-hospital experience.

Responsibilities

• Observe and report patient concerns to RN immediately.
• Assist RN with admission, transfer, discharge, and patient care tasks.
• Record vital signs and assist with hygiene and comfort of patients.
• Collect specimens and assist with assigned patient activities.
• Maintain a clean, safe environment to prevent infections.
• Prepare patients for examinations and procedures.
• Communcate nutrition issues to RN and support department operations.
• Respond to patient call bells and relay messages to staff.
• Perform tests such as glucose monitoring and urine/stool testing as directed.
