QC Test Track Heavy Equipment Operator Position Summary
The QC Test Track Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating newly manufactured heavy equipment, including Bobcats, skid steers, compact track loaders, and similar machinery, as part of the final quality-control testing process. The operator drives equipment through designated test-track patterns, including repeated figure-eight maneuvers, to verify proper track operation, steering, handling, and overall machine performance before the equipment is approved for release.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate Bobcats, skid steers, compact track loaders, and other manufactured heavy equipment on a designated QC test track.
- Drive equipment through figure-eight patterns and other predetermined test maneuvers to evaluate track and steering performance.
- Test forward and reverse movement, turning, braking, acceleration, and machine responsiveness.
- Observe track movement, alignment, tension, steering, and overall operating performance.
- Listen and watch for abnormal noises, vibration, pulling, slipping, hesitation, or other potential defects.
- Identify and report mechanical or operational concerns discovered during testing.
- Follow established testing procedures and communicate results to Quality Control and manufacturing personnel.
- Perform basic pre-operation visual inspections before testing equipment.
- Safely enter and exit equipment throughout the shift.
- Follow all plant, test-track, PPE, and heavy-equipment safety requirements.
- Maintain awareness of pedestrians, other equipment, and designated testing areas.
Physical & Work Environment
- Position involves continuous/repetitive operation of heavy equipment during the workday.
- Requires frequent climbing into and out of equipment.
- Requires sitting for extended periods while operating machinery.
- Must be able to use hand and foot controls and maintain adequate visibility around the equipment.
- Work may be performed outdoors or in an open manufacturing/test-track environment and may involve exposure to heat, cold, noise, dust, vibration, and changing weather conditions.
Qualifications
- Previous experience operating Bobcats, skid steers, compact track loaders, forklifts, construction equipment, or similar machinery preferred.
- Ability to safely maneuver heavy equipment in repetitive and controlled driving patterns.
- Ability to recognize unusual equipment performance and communicate concerns clearly.
- Must follow written and verbal QC testing instructions.
- Strong attention to safety and detail required.
Important Job Clarification:
This position is primarily a quality-control equipment operation/testing role. The employee is not performing construction, excavation, grading, demolition, or material-moving production work. The primary function is operating newly manufactured equipment on a controlled test track to verify proper track, steering, and operating performance.
