Job summary

The Municipality of Anchorage is seeking a journeyman mechanic in the Parks & Recreation department to maintain and repair gas and diesel engines and related equipment. Work shifts vary and include 5/8s or 4/10s across multiple locations in Anchorage.

Eligibility requires a high school diploma or GED plus a journeyman apprenticeship and 4–5 years of relevant experience. A valid Alaska driver's license and a satisfactory background check are required; E-Verify is used in hiring.

• 4 years of automotive, construction equipment, transit bus, and truck maintenance/repair experience or 5 years.

This position is represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers - Technicians (IBEW-Tech), Local 1547, and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.

DEPARTMENT: Parks & Recreation

HOURS OF WORK: Shifts vary: 5/8s Mon-Fri 8am-430pm or Mon-Thu or Tue-Fri, 6am-4:30pm 4/10 shifts

LOCATION: South Maintenance Shop; 11440 Lang Street, Anchorage, AK 99515 or North Maintenance Shop: 2839 Mountain View Dr Anchorage AK 99501

Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and completion of an approved journeyman mechanic apprenticeship program and four (4) years of automotive, construction equipment, transit bus, and truck maintenance and repair experience.

OR

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and five (5) years of automotive, construction equipment, transit bus, and truck maintenance and repair experience.

• Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.
• A valid State of Alaska Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire.

Military Service Interview Preference

Veterans who wish to be considered for interview preference, as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D, must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs, recognizing the person as a veteran.
