Job Description
Position Summary:

The Transmission Equipment Operator is an entry-level position involved in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical transmission systems. This role requires working at various locations and may include travel to another state depending on customer demands.

Essential Functions
  1. Work safely during construction, maintenance, or repair of energized and de-energized overhead lines.
  2. String overhead wire.
  3. Set poles and anchors.
  4. Assist with installing transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switchgear.
  5. Help replace fuses in transformers and clear faulted circuits and systems.
  6. Work with energized high voltage systems with caution to ensure safety.
  7. Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools.
  8. Perform rigorous physical labor as required.
  9. Use company radio properly.
  10. Operate heavy equipment and understand basic rigging, hand lines, and lineman knot tying.
  11. Use and maintain hand tools correctly.
  12. Follow directions and learn basic line work materials.
  13. Identify primary and secondary voltages and understand induced voltage.
  14. Assist with installation and hookup of single-phase transformers.
  15. Perform basic bucket rescue/escape procedures.
  16. Work at heights and in confined spaces safely.
  17. Check transformer voltages and understand flag and tag procedures.
  18. Install and remove services, inspect PPE and rubber goods.
  19. Use hand lines and Kellum grips appropriately.
  20. Work outdoors in inclement weather and high voltage environments.
Minimum Requirements
  1. 1-2 years of experience.
  2. Effective communication in English.
  3. Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License permit within 60 days.
  4. Preferred: A Commercial Driver’s License.
  5. Ability to travel long distances on short notice and work in various locations.
  6. Lift over 50 lbs.
  7. Inspect PPE and rubber goods properly.
  8. Willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Physical Demands

Must be able to talk, hear, stand, walk, handle objects, and reach frequently. Physical effort is required to perform job duties effectively.

Work Environment

Exposure to fumes, moving mechanical parts, vibration, and extreme conditions at construction sites. Work outdoors in various weather conditions, often in loud environments.
