Job description

Position Summary:

The Transmission Equipment Operator is an entry-level position involved in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical transmission systems. This role requires working at various locations and may involve travel to other states based on customer demands.

Essential Functions:
  1. Work safely during construction, maintenance, or repair of energized and de-energized overhead systems.
  2. String overhead wire.
  3. Set poles and anchors.
  4. Assist with installing transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switchgear.
  5. Assist in replacing fuses in transformers and clearing faulted circuits and systems.
  6. Work with energized high voltage systems, requiring caution to ensure safety.
  7. Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good condition.
  8. Perform rigorous physical labor as required.
  9. Use company radio properly.
  10. Operate heavy equipment safely.
  11. Learn basic rigging, hand lines, and knot tying for linemen.
  12. Use and maintain hand tools correctly.
  13. Follow directions effectively.
  14. Learn basic materials used in line work and identify primary and secondary voltages.
  15. Understand induced voltage and assist with installing and hooking up single-phase transformers.
  16. Perform basic bucket rescue and understand equipment setup and grounding.
  17. Work at heights and in confined spaces safely.
  18. Understand minimum approach distances and flagging/tagging procedures.
  19. Inspect rubber goods and PPE.
  20. Install and remove services properly.
  21. Identify different materials used in line work.
  22. Work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  23. Willingness to glove and work on high-voltage transmission lines.
  24. Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Requirements:
  1. 1-2 years of experience.
  2. Effective communication skills in English.
  3. Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License permit within 60 days; a CDL is preferred.
  4. Ability to travel long distances on short notice and work in various locations.
  5. Lift over 50 lbs.
  6. Inspect rubber goods and PPE properly.
  7. Willing to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and outside normal hours.
Physical Demands:

This role requires regular talking, hearing, standing, walking, handling, feeling, and reaching with hands and arms.

Work Environment:

The employee will be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, vibration, and extreme conditions at construction sites. The work environment can be loud and outdoors in various weather conditions.
