Job summary

The City of Winston-Salem is seeking a capable worker to operate medium equipment at construction sites under moderate supervision. This role involves performing intermediate semiskilled tasks and assisting crews while maintaining a safe site.

You will conduct pre-trip inspections, help with repairs and installations, and support cleanup efforts, with emphasis on OSHA/DOT safety and teamwork. A high school diploma or GED is required.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of DOT standards and safety practices.
• Ability to perform arithmetic with whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
• Ability to perform manual labor and work in various weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Operates medium equipment to excavate ground at job sites.
• Manages materials and equipment placement and transport as needed.
• Performs pre-trip inspection of equipment and vehicles.
• Aids crews with repairs, installations and site cleanup.
• Maintains safe work environment per OSHA and DOT guidelines.
