Job summary

The City of Billings is seeking an Equipment Operator/Maintenance Worker - Street/Traffic to perform a wide range of duties on city infrastructure, grounds and equipment. The position requires operating several pieces of equipment and performing street maintenance tasks in a safe, efficient manner. Regular schedule is 8:00 a.m.

to 4:30 p.m., with a summer 10-hour shift option. Candidates should have 3 years of relevant experience or 2 years for Maintenance Worker, and hold Montana Class A Type 2

Qualifications

• Two years of construction and maintenance experience operating light and medium equipment and trucks.
• Must possess Montana Class A Type 2 CDL with tanker endorsement, or obtain within 90 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Check tires, oil, lubricants, water levels, lights and fuel.
• Wash, lubricate, and adjust equipment.
• Maintain shop and storage areas used in performing tasks.
• Maintain street and alley maintenance including paving, patching, crack sealing, concrete work, and gravel.
• Operate equipment such as motor grader, roller, de-ice truck, large front-end loader, backhoe, storm sewer truck, and paint striper.
• Fabricate, install and maintain sign and traffic control devices.
• Maintain and repair storm sewers and drains.
• Plow and remove snow, sand, and de-ice winter streets.
• Clean streets and alleys, remove debris and trim trees.

Job description

The City of Billings is seeking an Equipment Operator/Maintenance Worker - Street/Traffic - to perform a full range of maintenance duties on city buildings, equipment, or grounds and/or operate a variety of equipment.

Salary Range: Salary reflects Step 1 and Step 6 of a 7-step pay scale. Salary at hiring will be dependent upon the applicant's education, experience, and training.

• Maintenance Worker: $21.8623 - $27.8695 per hour.
• Equipment Operator: $25.6353 - $32.6792 per hour.

Work Schedule

• Regular: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• Summer Schedule: Four (4) 10-hour shifts, varied days.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Checks tires, oil, lubricants, water levels, lights and fuel.
• Washes, lubricates, and adjusts equipment.
• Maintains shop and storage areas used in performing assigned tasks.
• Maintains cleanliness of work area and tools.
• Maintains and constructs streets and alleys, including paving, patching, crack sealing, concrete work, removing obstructions and laying gravel.
• Operate a variety of equipment including motor grader, roller, de-ice truck, large front-end loader, backhoe, storm sewer truck, and paint striper depending upon assignment.
• Fabricates, installs and maintains sign and traffic control devices.
• Maintains and repairs storm sewers and drains.
• Maintains winter streets by plowing, removing snow, sanding, de-icing, and snow blowing.
• Cleans city streets and alleys by removing brush, leaves, and other debris and by trimming and removing trees.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Qualifications For Maintenance Worker

• Two (2) years of progressively responsible construction and maintenance work operating light and medium equipment and trucks.
• Possession of a State of Montana Class A Type 2 commercial driver's license with tanker endorsement or must be obtained within ninety (90) days of employment.

Required Skills/Qualifications For Equipment Operator/Maintenance Worker

• Three (3) years of progressively responsible construction and maintenance work operating light and medium-sized equipment and trucks.
• Possession of a State of Montana Class A Type 2 commercial driver's license with tanker endorsement.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications For Maintenance Worker And Equipment Operator/Maintenance Worker

• High school diploma or equivalent.
