Job summary

City of Grand Island is seeking an experienced equipment operator to support operations, maintenance and construction at the landfill, transfer station and related facilities in Grand Island, Nebraska. You will operate a broad range of heavy equipment and assist in routine repairs, recordkeeping and safety compliance.

Working shifts typically 6:30 AM–4:30 PM on weekdays with occasional Saturday calls; candidates must hold a valid Class A CDL or be able to obtain one, and be able to perform heavy

Qualifications

• Experience operating medium to heavy equipment.
• Must possess valid driver's license and maintain insurability.

Responsibilities

• Operate a variety of maintenance and construction equipment for landfill, transfer station, and related facilities.
• Perform operation, maintenance and construction activities related to solid waste disposal.
• Assist with ice and snow removal.
• Assist with cleaning, maintenance or repair of fences, drainage structures, buildings and related structures.
• Assist in maintaining leachate collection system.
• Handle and dispose of special or hazardous wastes in accordance with regulations.
• Maintain records and file reports related to assigned work.
• Perform routine repair and maintenance on equipment and tools.
• Mow and trim vegetation at municipal facilities and support landfill/transfer station maintenance.
