Key Responsibilities
- Operate equipment such as forklift, bobcat, backhoe, track hoe, compactor, and steer equipment to bale, load, and move waste material.
- Perform daily inspection and maintenance checks of equipment, including greasing, lubricating, and checking fluids.
- Steer, guide, and operate equipment at the site, using steering wheels, shifters, levers, buttons, and pedals.
- Substitute for absent operators as needed.
- Clean trash from tracks and gear mechanisms of heavy equipment regularly.
- Use two-way radios for communication regarding work activities and priorities.
- Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, company policies, and safety procedures.
- Maintain the appearance of grounds and facilities.
- Attend safety and branch meetings.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED desired, but not required.
- Completion of forklift certification.
- Ability to obtain Transfer Station/Landfill Operations Certification if needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
- Apply basic problem-solving skills involving concrete variables.
- Perform basic math functions and understand equipment gauges.
- Proficient in reading, speaking, understanding, and writing English.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and 25 pounds frequently.
Physical and Mental Demands
- Ability to stand, sit, walk, use hands, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, climb, balance, taste, and smell.
- Visual requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.
Working Conditions
- Exposed to loud noise, weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, chemicals, fumes, and airborne particles.
- Work environment is typically outdoor and may involve working in heavy equipment covered cabs or high precarious places.
