The County of Volusia is seeking an experienced Equipment Operator III for the Solid Waste Division, located at the Tomoka Landfill in Port Orange, Florida. The role involves operating heavy equipment such as bulldozers, excavators, front-end loaders, landfill compactors, semi-trucks, and waste separation equipment. The position requires proficiency and dexterity in handling these machines and involves working four 10-hour days, including potential Saturdays and holidays.

Salary: $18.77/hr, plus an incentive of $1.50/hr for regular and overtime hours worked.

Major Functions

Operate heavy machinery, direct truck drivers, perform safety inspections, routine maintenance, and participate in laboring work as needed. The role may require exposure to outdoor elements and varying weather conditions.

Minimum Requirements

• Completion of 8th grade and three years of experience with heavy construction equipment.
• Possession of a valid Florida CDL within six months of hire.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver license.

Preferred candidates will have a Florida CDL Class A and at least one year of landfill equipment operation experience, including familiarity with solid waste practices.

Physical and Environmental Demands
