Job summary

North Dakota Department of Transportation is seeking an Equipment Operator III to maintain highways, roads, and structures in the Dickinson District, Mott Section. The role involves operating heavy equipment for snow control, maintenance, and sign/guardrail work, with emphasis on safety and reliable daily duties.

The position requires two years of advanced equipment experience or a combination of education and work history, including a Class A license with air brakes and a cargo tanker

Qualifications

• Two years work experience at Equipment Operator II level.
• High school diploma or GED and three years of work experience with heavy equipment operations, highway maintenance or construction-related work, and a class A driver's license with air brakes and a cargo tanker endorsement.
• Two years of college coursework in engineering, heavy equipment operation or maintenance may substitute for up to two years of the work experience requirement.
• Work on night shift may be required. Work on weekends, and holidays during emergency events. Will be at times required to report to work within 30 minutes during emergency or storm situations.
• Previous experience in safely operating equipment such as tractors with attachments, farm trucks, etc. preferred.
• MOS substitutions may be used year-for-year for the required experience.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment for highway, roadway, and structure maintenance.
• Install, repair, and maintain highway signs and guardrails.
• Build and maintain roadway, buildings, grounds and radio system equipment.
• Perform minor preventive and repair maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
• Keep time records, activity reporting, daily diary, road reports, etc.
• Perform construction project duties and act as section lead when supervisor is absent.
