City of Tyler is seeking an Equipment Operator II to join the construction crew. The role safely transports equipment and materials, performs general labor, and supports water and sewer infrastructure projects.
The position requires operating dump trucks, loaders, backhoes, and forklifts, with on-call duties and potential overtime. A TX Class B CDL with air brakes and a valid license are required, plus relevant experience.
The equipment Operator II works as part of a construction crew and reports directly to the Crew Leader. The primary purpose of this position is to safely transport equipment and materials to and from job sites and to perform general labor in the maintenance, repair, and installation of water and sewer infrastructure. This role supports daily field operations by operating heavy equipment, performing manual labor, and ensuring the safe and efficient completion of utility construction tasks. Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, with nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call work as required.
Education and Experience: A high school diploma or GED is required; one (1) year of job-related experience is preferred but not required. Must be familiar with hand tools. Must operate a loader, backhoe, and forklift to load truck materials. Must be able to operate dump trucks and light duty trucks, including 1-ton, ¾-ton, and ½-ton varieties and various trailers. Must have Texas Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License with air brake endorsement and a good driving record throughout employment. Must possess a TCEQ Class “C” Water Distribution Class “1” Wastewater Collection License or can obtain one within one (1) year

The City of Tyler will accept two years of relevant experience in place of each year of college required in the job description. Four years of relevant experience will be considered in place of an Associate's Degree, and eight years of relevant experience will be considered in place of a Bachelor's Degree. Any experience required in the Minimum qualifications is in addition to years of experience substituted for a degree.
