CITY OF STAUNTON

Equipment Operator II

The City of Staunton’s Public Works Department is seeking applicants for the position of Equipment Operator II in its Utilities Division. This role involves performing routine and skilled maintenance and construction work related to installing and repairing water and sewer lines and their appurtenances.

The responsibilities include:

1. Performing recurring preventative maintenance activities on water and sewer lines.
2. Operating and maintaining heavy, medium, and light-duty equipment such as dump trucks, backhoes, sewer jets, vacuum/jet trucks, valve maintenance trailers, vacuum excavation trailers, camera trucks, and boom trucks.
3. Using hand tools and performing manual labor in all weather conditions and at all times of day.
4. Maintaining knowledge of municipal utility system maintenance, repair, and construction, including understanding applicable hazards, laws, and safety regulations.
5. Maintaining, adjusting, and repairing equipment, understanding verbal and written instructions, and utilizing computer hardware and software for work execution and data management.

This position requires a Class A CDL with tanker endorsement and a good driving record. Candidates without these licenses may be hired at a lower pay grade with the condition of obtaining the required licenses within six months of hire. The hourly rate starts at $18.79 or higher, depending on qualifications, with excellent benefits. The position remains open until filled.
