SALARY: $23.2914 - $28.6999, Hourly (DOE&Q) NON-EXEMPT

To perform a variety of skilled tasks in the operation of equipment for public works activities including excavation, sanitation collection, construction, loading, and related operations according to standards; and to participate in maintenance and construction work.
This is the full journey level class in the equipment operator series. Incumbents work independently, exercising judgment and initiative. They operate complex mechanical equipment and may provide lead supervision to a small crew of lower-level staff.
Receives general supervision from higher management. May exercise technical supervision over lower staff.
Knowledge of: Equipment operation, public works practices, traffic laws, safety procedures, city policies.
Ability to: Perform skilled construction and maintenance tasks, learn city geography, maintain equipment, follow instructions, work independently or in teams, read blueprints, and operate equipment safely.
Maintain physical and mental fitness for demanding work conditions, including exposure to hazards and adverse weather.
At least 3 years of responsible maintenance experience with heavy construction equipment. High school diploma or GED required. Valid Texas Class A or B CDL required. Additional licenses may be required for landfill or parks roles.
