York County is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to support Grounds Maintenance and Construction. You will operate tractors, dump trucks, backhoes and related machinery outdoors to maintain roads, ditches and properties.
Requirements include a high school diploma, 1–2 years of experience or equivalent training, a Class A CDL with clean record, and pesticide certification (or willingness to obtain within 6 months). Safety shoes and the ability to lift up to 75 pounds are expected.
Performs specialized skilled work in the operation of one or more types of motorized heavy equipment used in maintenance and construction operations for the Grounds Maintenance and Construction Division. Operates a variety of heavy and medium equipment to include dump trucks, farm tractors, and backhoes to dig trenches, spread dirt and gravel, haul dirt and debris, and cut grass and weeds. Responsible for performing certain minor preventive maintenance on all assigned equipment.
High school graduate or equivalent, and 1 to 2 years of experience in the operation of heavy motorized equipment or any combination of training and experience.
Possession of a Class A Commercial driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia with good driving record mandatory.
Certification as a State Category 60 Registered Technician for pesticide application required or, must be willing to obtain such certification within 6 months of employment.
Safety shoes required.
Requires an acceptable criminal background check.
Work is performed outdoors under all types of weather conditions with exposure to the usual hazards associated with outside maintenance and construction work.
This position is considered an Essential Position (County designation as ALPHA) which requires the employee to report to work during inclement and extreme weather conditions, often outside normally scheduled work hours, or as notified by a supervisor.
DMV records and criminal background checks conducted prior to employment.
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including tractors, front end loaders, excavators, compactors, bulldozers, etc., and hand tools including shovels, wrenches, carpentry tools, laser and grades rods, torches, etc. Must be able to lift between 50 and 75 pounds, and be able to stand, bend, and stoop for a portion of the day when doing construction or maintenance work.
