Job summary

York County is seeking a skilled heavy equipment operator to support the Grounds Maintenance and Construction Division. Operate dump trucks, backhoes, tractors, and related machinery to dig trenches, spread dirt and gravel, haul materials, and maintain areas by mowing and weed control.

This outdoor role is essential, with exposure to weather and outside hazards. A Virginia Class A CDL with a good driving record is required, and State Category 60 pesticide certification must be obtained within 6

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; 1–2 years of heavy equipment experience.
• Possession of a Virginia Class A CDL with a clean driving record.
• Certification as a State Category 60 Registered Technician for pesticide application or willingness to obtain within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy and medium equipment (dump trucks, backhoes, tractors) for maintenance/construction tasks.
• Dig trenches and spread dirt/gravel; haul dirt and debris; mow grass and weeds.
• Perform minor preventive maintenance on assigned equipment; report major repairs.
