Job summary

Harris County Flood Control District seeks an Equipment Operator to maintain channels, drainage elements, and rights-of-way by operating trucks and heavy equipment, applying herbicides, and performing routine maintenance. The role involves working outdoors in all weather, with some lifting and manual labor, and requires knowledge of bayous and drainage areas.

Regular full-time hours, located at 5301 Almeda Genoa Rd, Houston, TX 77048.

Qualifications

Prefer a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License.
Prefer a Texas State licensed ATV Operator.
Prefer a Texas State Commercial or Non-commercial Pesticide Applicator License.

Responsibilities

Operate trucks and equipment, including spray equipment, tractors, chainsaws, XUVs, and weed trimmers.
Drive trash trucks to and from job sites, dump sites, or landfills.
Mix herbicides per manufacturers’ formulas and instructions and dispense from various equipment.
Clean and repair spray equipment and store herbicides and supplies.
Cut weeds, grass, and brush along channels, drainage elements, and rights-of-way.
Dislodge and remove debris from channel berms, slopes, and bottoms for proper disposal.
Check and maintain equipment fluids, perform daily inspections, fuel and wash as needed.
Report necessary replacement or repair of defective equipment to the supervisor.
Assume additional responsibilities as required.
