Basic Job Functions:

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

1. Properly follow company and OSHA safety procedures.
2. Operate mobile heavy equipment of various sizes and types (front end loader, skid steer, grapple and magnet material handlers).
3. Communicate over radio with team members for traffic coordination, production, and safety procedures.
4. Perform daily inspections on equipment and report any defects or needed repairs to supervisor.
5. Clean equipment as needed.
6. Greet customers entering the yard and direct them to the proper location to unload materials from their vehicles.
7. Inspect materials brought in by customers for non-acceptable items and ensure that prohibited materials such as propane tanks, batteries, etc., are not left on company property.
8. Interact with customers and team members to facilitate a safe and productive yard environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. 2-3 years’ experience using a front-end loader, skid steer, or scrap handler in an industrial/outdoor work environment.
2. Knowledge of heavy-equipment operating principles.
3. Ability to operate equipment under varying working conditions.
4. Effective communication skills in English.
5. Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
6. Dependability and consistency in meeting attendance schedules.
7. Working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to heavy equipment operations.
8. Effective communication and coordination skills to work as part of a team.
