The County of Riverside seeks candidates to fill positions throughout Riverside County. A list of eligible candidates will be established to fill current and future vacancies.
Riverside County Department of Waste Resources has an opportunity for an Equipment Operator II located at the Badlands Landfill in Moreno Valley, or Lamb Canyon Landfill in Beaumont.
Possession of a valid California Commercial Driver License: Class B is required when applying for this position. A DMV Driving Report (generated within the last 30 days) must be attached to your application to advance to an interview.
This position involves operating heavy construction equipment, undertaking maintenance and construction tasks, with opportunities to work independently or lead crews.
The responsibilities include operating equipment such as Bulldozers, Compactors, Scrapers, Motor Graders, and Excavators to support landfill operations. Additional duties may include operating light equipment like water trucks, loaders, and backhoes for road maintenance and other tasks.
Competitive candidates will have experience in landfill maintenance or construction, including operating heavy machinery and knowledge of safety procedures.
Schedule:
4/10 schedule, from 5:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with at least one Saturday per month. Differential pay is provided for Saturday shifts, offering additional weekend compensation.

The Department of Waste Resources manages the County's solid waste disposal, promoting environmental protection and recycling to ensure community health.
- Operate tracked and wheeled construction equipment for road, landfill, and flood control projects.
- Prepare, grade, and shape roads, landfills, and channels; check and set grades.
- Work from plans and surveys; clear debris; construct and repair storm drains and culverts.
- Service and maintain equipment; operate trucks with trailers for hauling.
- Use hand and power tools for various tasks.
Experience: Two years in public works maintenance or construction, including one year operating heavy equipment.
Note: Heavy equipment operation will be tested during the interview.
License: Valid California Commercial Driver's License Class B at application; must obtain Class A and Tanker endorsement within 4 months of hire. DMV driving record must be submitted prior to hire.

Physical Requirements: Outdoor work at landfills, exposure to weather, odors, and environmental conditions. Ability to stand, climb, reach, and handle heavy materials.
Knowledge of: Tools, materials, and equipment used in public works; operation and maintenance of gasoline and diesel equipment.
Ability to: Perform skilled maintenance and construction tasks, operate equipment safely, read plans, and follow instructions.
