Job summary

City of Siloam Springs is seeking an Operator I to perform street maintenance, mowing, storm drainage work, and related construction tasks in the City’s Streets & Infrastructure department. The role involves operating a range of equipment and providing service to residents while adhering to safety standards.

The position requires a valid driver’s license with potential for Class B CDL within 12 months. You will work outdoors in various weather conditions and may be on-call as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED, or 1–3 months related experience or training.
• Valid driver’s license; ability to obtain Class B CDL within 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Provide good customer service to internal and external customers and maintain positive working relationships.
• Contact residents and business owners in areas where services will be discontinued and explain timelines.
• Ensure safety on roadway and public safety by following standards.
• Operate and maintain equipment and tools; clean after use.
• Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance; refer defects for repairs.
• Perform on‑call duties as necessary.
• Comply with safety and security standards.
• Maintain street upkeep within city limits; repair asphalt/concrete, signs and posts, drainage.
• Install and repair storm drains, curb, gutter and asphalt; lay water/sewer mains as directed.
• Perform labor on construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew.
• Perform unskilled labor in various maintenance projects within Street & Infrastructure.
• Work in inclement weather including snow/ice removal using plow, brine, and related gear.
• Operate small mowing equipment to maintain street rights‑of‑way.
• Operate tools such as chainsaw, chipper, concrete saws, dump trucks, loaders, etc.
• Assist with traffic control by directing and flagging vehicles.
• Possibly train on large equipment as needed.
• Perform other related duties as required.
