Job summary

The City of Staunton's Park Maintenance Department invites applicants for Equipment Operator I to join the Parks & Recreation team. The role performs routine, semi-skilled maintenance and operates light to medium lawn equipment while responsive to emergency weather events and day-to-day park care.

A valid driver's license is required with a clean driving record; a CDL with passenger endorsement must be obtained within a year. Abend shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays may be needed.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of common lawn tools and ability to operate light/medium lawn equipment.
• Ability to understand and follow oral instructions and perform manual labor.
• Possession of valid driver's license and good driving record.
• CDL with passenger endorsement required within 1 year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Operate motorized equipment in support of Parks & Recreation.
• Respond to emergency work during storms, ice and snow.
• Follow safety policies and procedures and work with minimal supervision.
• Be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• May be on call for emergency work.

Equipment Operator I-Park Maintenance

The City of Staunton's Park Maintenance Department is seeking an Equipment Operator I to join its team.

Successful candidate performs routine semi-skilled work in a variety of maintenance assignments operating motorized equipment in support of the Parks & Recreation Department. Responds to unscheduled emergency work such as storms, ice and snow emergencies.

Responsibilities & Requirements

• Must possess a general knowledge of the use of common lawn tools and have the ability to operate light and medium lawn equipment.
• Must the ability to understand and follow oral instructions, perform manual labor for extended periods, work without direct supervision and be able to follow safety policies and procedures.
• Possession of valid driver's license with good driving record.
• Must possess or obtain a CDL with passenger endorsement within a year of employment.
• Additionally, must possess or obtain a Registered Tech Spray endorsement within a year of employment.
• Must work in adverse weather conditions.
• Must be willing to work nights, weekends and holidays if inclement weather or other adverse conditions require the clearing or work on parks, fields, etc.
• May be on call on a rotational basis for emergency work.
• Individual is subject to random drug testing.
• Ability to follow instructions, problem solve, work and think both independently and effectively in a team environment is required.

Pay & Benefits

• $17.62/hr or higher DOE/DOQ (+) excellent benefits.
