Job description

The purpose of this position is to operate and maintain trucks and heavy equipment. This includes hauling blacktop, salt, dirt, and stone; plowing snow; performing routine maintenance on all vehicles; and ensuring that all duties are performed in a timely and effective manner. Other responsibilities include patching streets, paving sidewalks, performing concrete work, meter checking, welding metals, sewer work, and executing any other tasks as needed.

Key Duties:

1. Drive dump trucks to pick up blacktop, haul stone, and remove snow from streets.
2. Perform concrete and storm sewer work, including repairing curbs and storm sewers, driving vactor trucks, cleaning inlets, and repairing broken or stolen inlet grates.
3. Coordinate with coworkers across organizational units, demonstrating resourcefulness, tact, and judgment, especially when handling confidential information.
4. Follow established standard operating procedures and policies, with performance reviewed periodically.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Valid PA Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Air Brake and Tanker Endorsements.
• Must pass a background check, drug test, and PA Child Abuse clearance (dated within one year, showing no record).

Additional Information:

This position is subject to Article 36, Residency Requirements, of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of York and Teamsters Local 776. New employees must reside within York County or a contiguous county within six months of employment, as per amended ordinance.
