Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma, GED equivalent or specialized vocational training.
• Must possess a valid state commercial driver’s license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements or obtain CDL permit (3 months after date of hire).
• Must obtain CDL (Class “B”) with appropriate endorsements (6 months after date of hire). 12 months for Class A/B within 12 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Operates heavy equipment to construct, maintain and repair paved and unpaved county roads, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, driveways, ditches, catch basins and storm drainage systems.
• Operates heavy equipment to maintain public rights‑of‑way and assist other divisions and departments as necessary, including landfill tasks.
• Manually loads / unloads materials onto vehicles; transports equipment and materials to / from work sites.
• Uses hand and power tools in various manual tasks as required.
• Inspects equipment to ensure proper and safe working condition; reports defects or required maintenance to the supervisor.
• Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of assigned tools and equipment.
• Maintains accurate and complete work records as required.
• May operate dump trucks and other equipment.
