Job summary

City of Rowlett, Texas is seeking a Maintenance Worker to support water, wastewater, streets and drainage systems. Under direct supervision, you will operate varied heavy equipment, perform construction and repair tasks, and assist in training junior staff.

You must hold a High School diploma or GED with at least 3 years in related work; CDL preferred. The City offers a 4-day work week and a competitive benefits package, along with opportunities to advance within Public Works.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED and 3 years of experience in construction, maintenance and repair of streets and drainage, with at least 1 year in equipment operation.
• Ability to operate heavy equipment such as asphalt paver, rollers, asphalt reclaimer, tack machine, water truck, dump truck, backhoe, motor grader, grade all, track loader.
• Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; establish and maintain positive working relationships; supervise in the absence of the Crew Leader.

Responsibilities

• Assist Crew Leader in planning, scheduling and implementing construction, maintenance and operation activities for water, wastewater, streets and drainage services.
• Perform labor in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew, including pavement repair, ditch digging, manhole and line cleaning, main and pipe repair, backfilling, and grade reading.
• Ensure safety and security standards at work sites per MUTCD; inspect and maintain equipment; report defects to supervisor.
• Respond to complaints about asphalt, concrete and drainage repairs; communicate with residents and businesses about interruptions and restorations.
• Assist in training Maintenance Specialist I & II; obtain locates for utilities prior to excavation.
• Perform other duties as assigned; maintain regular attendance and professional relationships.
