Job summary

STG Pacific LLC is seeking an Equipment Operator to support civil and infrastructure projects. You will safely operate heavy equipment, perform excavation, grading and material handling, inspect and maintain equipment, and follow safety policies across diverse field locations.

Responsibilities include coordinating with project teams, reading plans, and maintaining equipment in good condition. Candidates should have OSHA 30, 5 years’ experience, and a valid license; CDL preferred.

  • Pass drug, driving, and background screenings.
  • Experience with maintenance and knowledge of heavy equipment systems.

Job description

JOB SUMMARY

The Equipment Operator is responsible for safely operating a variety of heavy construction equipment in support of civil and infrastructure projects. This position performs excavation, grading, loading, material handling, site preparation, and related construction activities while working closely with project management and field crews to safely and efficiently complete project objectives. The Equipment Operator is expected to inspect and maintain assigned equipment, comply with all Company safety policies and regulatory requirements, and perform work in varying weather conditions, remote project locations, and other physically demanding environments.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assist the Project Manager, Superintendent, and other field personnel with daily construction activities.
  • Operate excavators, bulldozers, loaders, graders, scrapers, rollers, trucks, compressors, pumps, and other heavy construction equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Select and operate the appropriate equipment and attachments based on job requirements, site conditions, and project specifications.
  • Perform excavation, grading, loading, backfilling, trenching, demolition, and material handling activities in accordance with project plans and specifications.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections and perform routine fueling, lubrication, cleaning, and minor preventive maintenance on assigned equipment.
  • Monitor equipment operation and report mechanical concerns, maintenance needs, or unsafe conditions promptly.
  • Coordinate equipment movements with ground personnel using established hand signals, radios, and other communication methods.
  • Read and interpret project plans, grade stakes, diagrams, and work instructions to perform assigned work accurately.
  • Perform work within established tolerances and specifications, including maintaining proper grades, elevations, slopes, and alignment as required.
  • Recognize and avoid hazards including underground utilities, overhead obstructions, other equipment, personnel, and changing site conditions.
  • Maintain awareness of surrounding personnel, equipment, structures, and environmental conditions to ensure safe equipment operation in active construction areas.
  • Load, transport, and place soil, aggregate, debris, equipment, and construction materials as directed.
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices to minimize safety hazards and environmental contamination.
  • Maintain assigned equipment in a clean, organized, and serviceable condition and promptly communicate equipment issues that may impact productivity or safety.
  • Properly wear, inspect, maintain, and utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Comply with all Company safety policies, OSHA requirements, environmental regulations, and project-specific procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and other field personnel to coordinate work activities, resolve issues, and support project completion.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of heavy construction equipment operation, safety practices, and preventive maintenance procedures.
  • Knowledge of construction methods, materials, equipment capabilities, and job site operations.
  • Knowledge of equipment attachments, operating limitations, and proper equipment selection based on project requirements and site conditions.
  • Ability to perform routine equipment inspections and identify mechanical issues requiring maintenance or repair.
  • Ability to read and interpret project plans, grade stakes, site layouts, safety procedures, and work instructions.
  • Ability to recognize hazardous conditions and take appropriate corrective action to protect personnel, equipment, and the environment.
  • Ability to safely wear and maintain required personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and spotters using verbal communication, radios, and hand signals.
  • Ability to coordinate equipment operation with ground personnel and other equipment operators in active construction environments.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, quality work.
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic equipment operating issues and communicate equipment concerns or maintenance needs promptly.
  • Ability to organize work, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing project conditions and schedules.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing effectively as a member of a construction team.
  • Ability to work productively under pressure while maintaining a strong commitment to safety.
  • Ability to maintain situational awareness and exercise sound judgment when operating equipment around personnel, structures, utilities, and changing site condition.
  • Ability to travel (up to 100%) and work extended hours, including overtime, weekends, and remote assignments, as required by project needs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Five (5) years’ experience operating heavy construction equipment required.
  • Experience with equipment maintenance and a working knowledge of heavy equipment systems, tools, and their practical applications preferred.
  • OSHA 30-Hour and equipment operator certifications.
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and must be qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of Company’s Driving Policy.
  • Ability to pass a drug, driving, and background screenings.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. STG Pacific has a fast-paced construction environment requiring a high degree of safety awareness, efficiency, and adaptability while supporting multiple projects with changing priorities. Work is performed primarily outdoors at active construction sites and may include remote project locations where lodging in field camps may be required. Employees are regularly exposed to varying weather conditions, uneven terrain, heavy equipment, construction noise, dust, mud, vibration, and other typical job site hazards. This position requires flexibility regarding changing project schedules, varying workloads, and operational needs. Occasional overtime, weekend work, and extended workdays may be required to support project schedules, weather delays, and customer commitments. Strict adherence to Company safety policies, environmental requirements, and all applicable regulatory standards is required at all times.
