Safely operate and/or have the ability to operate various equipment including forklift, bobcat, backhoe, track hoe, compactor, and/or steer equipment to bale, load, and move waste material.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate necessary equipment to bale and load waste material into trailers.
- Perform inspection and maintenance checks of equipment daily.
- Grease/lubricate equipment, check, and add fluids to equipment daily.
- Steer, guide, and/or drive the listed equipment at the assigned site using steering wheel, shifters, levers, buttons, and pedals.
- Substitute for another operator if someone is absent or as needed.
- Clean trash from tracks of heavy equipment by pulling or cutting material away from tracks and gear mechanisms daily or as needed.
- Use a two-way radio to communicate with co-workers regarding work activities, requirements, and priorities.
- Conform to all applicable laws, regulations, ordinances, policies, procedures, and directives.
- Maintain the appearance of the grounds and facility.
- Attend safety and branch meetings.
- Perform other duties as required by management.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED desired but not required.
- Completion of forklift certification.
- Ability to obtain Transfer Station / Landfill Operations Certification if needed.
- Operate equipment such as excavator, forklift/bobcat, front-loader, baler, backhoe, track hoe, bulldozer, and compactor.
- Wear safety shoes and eye protection.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Follow instructions and work independently.
- Apply common sense to solve problems involving multiple variables.
- Perform basic math functions and understand equipment gauges.
- Read, speak, understand, and write English.
- Lift/push/pull up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Physical and Mental Demands:
- Stand, sit, walk, use hands, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, climb, balance, taste, and smell.
- Visual requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
Working Conditions:
- Exposure to loud noise, humidity, weather, moving parts, vibration, chemicals, fumes, and particles.
- Work environment is usually moderate to loud.
- Operate in outdoor environments, sometimes inside heavy equipment cabs, exposed to weather.
- Occasionally work at heights.
