Job summary

City of Jackson, MS is seeking an equipment operator to support street, water, sewer, and parks maintenance. You will operate a range of trucks and machinery, perform related tasks, and ensure safety on the jobsite.

Qualification includes a valid CDL (A or B) and a high school diploma or equivalent; prior equipment experience is desirable. The role may require evening or weekend work and travel between sites as needed.

Qualifications

Job Brief

• Operate light to medium construction equipment such as dump, garbage and bucket trucks, tractor, forklift, flat bed, backhoes and removal equipment for a variety of maintenance and construction operation involving streets, right-of-way maintenance, water maintenance and distribution, sewers, and parks.
• Operate hand and power tools during the winter months including grinder, grease machine, chain saw, paint machine, pole chipper and a stump.
• Identify equipment needs for each assigned project; pick-up and deliver equipment to and from construction sites.
• Perform additional construction and maintenance tasks such as concrete work, truck driving, jack hammering, and a variety of minor repair activities.
• Transport dirt, cement and other materials to jobsite. Report minor repair needs to supervisor; ensure safety of equipment.
• May work evenings and weekends as required by staffing shortage or emergency conditions.
• Gravel road shoulders to prevent standing water damage.
• Distributes sand onto ice, oil spills and slick areas on roadways; transport dirt, rock, debris and asphalt to work sites.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Previous experience performing maintenance work involving the operation of construction equipment is desirable. Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
• Possession of a valid Class “A” or Class “B” Commercial License required.
• PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT, APPLICANT RECOMMENDED FOR EMPLOYMENTSHALL BE REQUIRED TO SUCCESSFULLY PASS A URINALYSIS AND/OR BLOOD TEST TO SCREEN FOR ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUG ABUSE.
