Position Overview

The Equipment Operator I will operate heavy machinery for construction, demolition, or excavation projects.

Supervisory Responsibilities

None

Responsibilities

1. Operate construction, excavation, hauling, and maintenance equipment including backhoes, front-end loaders, bulldozers, excavators, or grade tractors.
2. Prepare construction sites for building, demolition, or excavation.
3. Use excavating machinery to dig holes and trenches for structural concrete.
4. Transport tools and construction equipment to and from sites.
5. Prepare building sites for exterior concrete work such as parking lots, driveways, sidewalks, and loading docks.
6. Operate machinery used to build bridges, roads, and railroads.
7. Inspect and fuel vehicles before shifts.
8. Perform routine maintenance and repairs.
9. Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Abilities

• Extensive knowledge of heavy machinery operation.
• Ability to read building plans related to structural concrete and land grading.
• Excellent mechanical skills.
• Ability to follow instructions.
• CDL required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Vocational training or apprenticeship preferred.
• On-the-job training provided.

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged operation of heavy machinery.
• Ability to work long hours, including evenings and weekends.
• Operate machinery in all weather conditions and terrains.
• Lift up to 25 pounds.
