Job Summary

This position operates equipment in the repair and maintenance of city streets.

Major Duties

1. Operate single and double axle dump trucks, backhoe, bobcat, excavator, etc.
2. Maintain assigned vehicles and equipment; perform pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections.
3. Transport materials and equipment to and from work sites.
4. Flag traffic and install traffic control devices at work sites.
5. Cut asphalt and concrete.
6. Operate leaf collector.
7. Shoot grade.
8. Clean ditches.
9. Maintain alleys.
10. Build drainage boxes.
11. Perform related duties.

Knowledge and Skills Required

• Knowledge of street and right-of-way maintenance techniques, equipment, and supplies.
• Knowledge of city and departmental safety policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of city geography, including street names and locations.
• Skill in operating assigned vehicles and equipment.
• Skill in using hand and power tools.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.

Supervisory Controls

Work is assigned by the Street Supervisor with general instructions; work is spot-checked for compliance and quality.

Guidelines

Guidelines include traffic laws, safety policies, and city procedures, which may require some interpretation.

Work Complexity and Scope

The work involves related equipment operation duties, with added complexity due to weather and traffic conditions. The role contributes to safe and well-maintained city streets.

Minimum Qualifications
