Job summary

Sherwood Companies is seeking a Plant Maintenance Technician to operate and maintain plant equipment safely and efficiently. You will follow MSHA regulations and company procedures, perform preventive maintenance, and report issues to supervision.

The role requires 2–3 years of maintenance experience and a high school diploma or GED. Responsibilities include operating conveyors, belts, screens, and heavy equipment such as skid steers and loaders, with long shifts and weekend work common.

Qualifications

  • 2–3 years of plant maintenance experience preferred.
  • MSHA Miner Training (or equivalent) is recommended.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain plant equipment in a safe, efficient manner following PPE and process requirements.
  • Follow all company policies and MSHA regulations for safe procedures and environment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on conveyors, belts, screens, and related equipment.
  • Report major maintenance issues to the Superintendent.
  • Operate power tools and equipment including front end loader and water truck as needed.
  • Maintain daily plant maintenance and cleanliness; ensure tasks are completed on schedule.

Job description

The role is responsible for operation and maintenance of the plant. The incumbent will need to operate in a safe and efficient manner following all personal protective equipment (PPE) and process requirements. This role is classified as safety sensitive.

ACTIVITIES/TASKS/SCOPE
  • Properly follow all company policies and MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment.
  • Responsible for a safe work environment for themselves and co-workers.
  • Greases, performs oil changes and preventative maintenance on equipment.
  • Report all major maintenance problems to Superintendent.
  • Repair and replace conveyor belts when needed.
  • Change plant screens when needed.
  • Maintain plant site and plant with skid steer, shovel, and wash down with hose.
  • Operate small power tools.
  • Operate water truck for dust control of roads.
  • Operate front end loader to feed the plant and load trucks when needed.
  • Responsible for ensuring daily maintenance of plant is completed.
  • Regular attendance is required.
  • 10+ hour days and weekends are common.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • High School or Degree or GED required
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • 2-3 years of experience in plant maintenance preferred

  • Mechanical knowledge of machines and tools
  • Repairing and troubleshooting
