Job summary

Cleveland-Cliffs is seeking an Equipment Operator at our Canton, OH facility. The role focuses on processing scrap metals using front end loaders and other heavy equipment, with responsibilities across loading, sorting, weighing, and yard logistics.

You will maintain safety through PPE, inspect equipment, assist with maintenance, and support daily plant operations while delivering excellent service to customers and drivers in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High School Diploma/GED or 1+ years of equipment operator experience.
• Ability to work independently.
• Must be able to read, write, and perform basic math.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, clean work environment through PPE compliance, hazard prevention, and housekeeping.
• Load, unload, move, and stage materials using mobile equipment and manual labor as needed.
• Sort, inspect, and identify scrap materials, ensuring proper grading and removal of non-conforming items.
• Operate and maintain heavy equipment, including loaders, forklifts, skid steers, balers, crushers, and rail/yard vehicles.
• Process, weigh, and store finished materials and bales in designated inventory locations.
• Perform equipment inspections, assist with maintenance activities, and support overall plant operations.
• Manage yard logistics, including trailer/container placement, railcar switching, and fluid removal from incoming materials.
• Assist customers and drivers while supporting general labor and operational needs across the facility.

Ferrous Processing and Trading (FPT) is one of North America's premier processors, buyers, sellers and recyclers of scrap metals of all kinds and is a key supplier to the metals industry of North America. FPT is a wholly-owned business of Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opportunity for an Operator at one of our Canton, OH locations . The Equipment Operator is responsible for the processing of scrap metals using various tools and equipment including front end loaders.

Summary of Responsibilities:
