Job summary

Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. is seeking an Equipment Operator at our Canton, OH facility to process scrap metals using loaders, forklifts, balers, and other heavy equipment. You will load, unload, sort, inspect, and store materials while supporting yard logistics and safety programs.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Load, unload, move, and stage materials using mobile equipment and manual labor as needed.
• Sort, inspect, and identify scrap materials; ensure proper grading and removal of non-conforming items.
• Operate and maintain heavy equipment, including loaders, forklifts, skid steers, balers, crushers, and rail/yard vehicles.
• Process, weigh, and store finished materials and bales in designated inventory locations.
• Perform equipment inspections and assist with maintenance activities; support plant operations.
• Manage yard logistics, including trailer/container placement and railcar switching.
• Assist customers and drivers while supporting general labor and operational needs.

Location: Canton, OH

Ferrous Processing and Trading (FPT) is one of North America’s premier processors, buyers, sellers and recyclers of scrap metals of all kinds and is a key supplier to the metals industry of North America. FPT is a wholly-owned business of Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opportunity for an Operator at one of our Canton, OH locations . The Equipment Operator is responsible for the processing of scrap metals using various tools and equipment including front end loaders.

Summary of Responsibilities:

• Maintain a safe, clean work environment through PPE compliance, hazard prevention, and housekeeping.
• Load, unload, move, and stage materials using mobile equipment and manual labor as needed.
• Sort, inspect, and identify scrap materials, ensuring proper grading and removal of non-conforming items.
• Operate and maintain heavy equipment, including loaders, forklifts, skid steers, balers, crushers, and rail/yard vehicles.
• Process, weigh, and store finished materials and bales in designated inventory locations.
• Perform equipment inspections, assist with maintenance activities, and support overall plant operations.
• Manage yard logistics, including trailer/container placement, railcar switching, and fluid removal from incoming materials.
• Assist customers and drivers while supporting general labor and operational needs across the facility.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High School Diploma/GED or may consider 1+ years of equipment operator experience.
• Ability to work independently
• Must be able to read, write, and perform basic math.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to maintain accurate records
• Ability to follow oral and written communication
• Ability to climb ladders or steps to reach objects
• Ability to endure physical and outdoor work on a daily basis.
• Ability to lift up to 50lbs.

Pay range for this position is $20.50 - $29.50
