Job summary

Recology is seeking an Equipment Maintenance Manager to oversee maintenance operations for multiple sites. You will direct shop personnel, coordinate procurement, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.

Ideal candidates have a strong background in fleet maintenance, supervisory experience, and the ability to manage budgets while improving efficiency and safety across operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; bachelor preferred.
• Eight years related industry experience, including four in a supervisory role.
• Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations governing maintenance operations.
• Experience with fleet maintenance programs and safety audits.

Responsibilities

• Contracts for services not performed in-house.
• Advises on vehicle and equipment replacement needs with leadership.
• Participates in budget development for maintenance operations.

• Investigates equipment damage and accident-related costs.
• Occasional driving of a company vehicle.
• Other duties as assigned.

Role of the Equipment Maintenance Manager

Oversees all maintenance operations of one or more operating companies. Schedules and directs the activities of the maintenance shop personnel, on various shifts, to service and repair vehicles and equipment including maintenance and repairs of the yard, maintenance shop and facilities.

Essential Responsibilities

• Oversees all maintenance operations, ensures maintenance personnel adhere to established policies for inspection, maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment in addition to ensuring all company policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreement (as applicable) are followed.
• Authorizes and makes arrangements for procurement of parts, supplies, tools and machinery.
• Contracts for services not performed in-house.
• Consults with Vice-President of Fleet and operations management and makes recommendations on vehicle and equipment replacement needs.
• Participates in budget making process pertaining to maintenance operations.
• Administers periodic inspection and audit of company vehicles, equipment, and facilities to ensure safe, efficient, effective, and compliant maintenance operations.
• Identifies potential safety hazards and takes appropriate action to ensure personnel safety.
• Investigates and evaluates cause, extent, and financial impacts of damage to equipment due to failures and vehicles involved in accidents.
• Driving a Company vehicle will be required from time to time.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Eight years related industry experience, including four years in a supervisory role.
• Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations that govern maintenance operations related to job site safety protocols and potential job hazards.
• Experience in the administration of comprehensive fleet and equipment preventative maintenance programs.
• Experience and knowledge of Federal D.O.T. Out-of-Service Criteria including CHP B.I.T. Inspections and DOT compliance audits.
• Experience and knowledge of inventory control processes.
• Experience and knowledge of fabrication skills preferred.
• Must be able to perform routine calculations and be able to write reports and correspondence.
• Experience and knowledge of working in a refuse/recycling maintenance facility or related environment with heavy vehicles, landfill equipment and processing equipment (such as: balers, conveyors, hoppers, electric motors and controls) preferred.
• Experience in managing union personnel preferred.
• Valid Driver's License required.
• Principles of employee training, supervision, and evaluation.
