Job summary

Recology is seeking an Equipment Maintenance Supervisor to oversee maintenance staff across shifts, schedule work, and ensure high-quality repair and service of vehicles and equipment. You will enforce safety and company policies, assist with purchasing, and maintain comprehensive records for maintenance activities.

The role requires strong supervisory skills, experience managing union personnel, and the ability to respond to emergencies around the clock.

Qualifications

  • Requires high school diploma or GED.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Related management experience including supervising union personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors workflow, adjusts schedules, and assigns employees to minimize downtime.
  • Supports Equipment Maintenance Manager to meet maintenance operations.
  • Ensures adherence to policies for inspection, maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment; follows company policies and union agreements.
  • Assists with purchasing parts, supplies, tools, and machinery.
  • Maintains records for service, repair, parts, inventory, vehicles, and equipment activities.
  • Performs periodic inspections/audits of facilities to ensure safe, efficient operations; identifies hazards and acts.
  • Must be able to work any shift and respond to equipment emergencies 24/7.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job description

Role of the Equipment Maintenance Supervisor

Supervises maintenance employees in all or part of an operating company. Schedules and directs the activities of the maintenance shop personnel, on various shifts, to service and repair vehicles and equipment including maintenance and repairs of the yard, maintenance shop and facilities. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Monitors workflow, adjusts schedules, and assigns employees as appropriate to rebalance workload when necessary to minimize downtime.
  • Supports the Equipment Maintenance Manager in ensuring all facets of the maintenance operations are met.
  • Ensures that maintenance personnel adhere to established policies for inspection, maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment in addition to ensuring all company policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreement (as applicable) are followed.
  • Assists with purchasing of parts, supplies, tools, and machinery, as required, in support of the maintenance operation.
  • Assists with recordkeeping tasks related to service, repair, parts, inventory, vehicles, and equipment activities (Drivers Vehicle Inspection Reports, Equipment Condition Reports, etc.).
  • Conducts periodic inspections and audits of facilities and equipment to ensure safe, efficient, effective, and compliant maintenance operations. Identifies potential safety hazards and takes appropriate action to ensure personnel safety. Investigates and evaluates cause and extent of damage to equipment failures and vehicles involved in accidents. Maintains strong communications between mechanic team and operations.
  • Must be able to work any assigned shift and respond to equipment emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Qualifications
  • Possession of a high school diploma or GED required
  • Valid Driver's license required.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Related management experience or related work experience, including supervising union personnel.
  • Principles of employee training, supervision, and evaluation.
  • Supervisory techniques, resource allocation, planning and budgeting.
