Job summary

United Natural Foods, Inc. is seeking a skilled maintenance technician to perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance on material handling equipment at our distribution center.

You will troubleshoot electrical, brake, and hydraulic systems and coordinate parts and tools to keep operations running. The ideal candidate has 2-3 years of technical maintenance experience, reads blueprints, follows safety guidelines, and works independently with good judgment.

Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of technical maintenance or related experience/training
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and technical reference manuals
  • Understanding of equipment operation and maintenance procedures
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to work well independently
  • Good judgment when supervision may not be immediately available

Responsibilities

  • Provide recommendations to repair or replace poorly functioning equipment (10%)
  • Efficiently prioritizes repair schedule to ensure an uninterrupted production schedule (10%)
  • Troubleshoot equipment problems including brake, electrical and hydraulic systems; detect issues and safety concerns (10%)
  • Provide improvements to ensure compliance with safety regulations to DC and safety team (10%)
  • Ensure department has parts and tools needed to perform their job (10%)
  • Perform preventive maintenance such as lubrication, cleaning, filter changes, etc. (10%)
  • Replace broken or defective parts from stock or order replacements (10%)
  • Modify and test equipment to improve uptime and reliability (10%)
  • Update and review daily maintenance logs (10%)
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures (10%)

PURPOSE

Responsible for the prompt minor repairs and ongoing preventative maintenance of material handling equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Job Responsibilities Percentage

  • Provide recommendations to repair or replace poorly functioning equipment (10%)
  • Efficiently prioritizes repair schedule to ensure an uninterrupted production schedule (10%)
  • Troubleshoot equipment problems to include brake, electrical and hydraulic systems, detect imperfections, potential problems, safety issues and/or malfunctions. (10%)
  • Provide improvements required to ensure compliance to safety regulations to DC and safety team (10%)
  • Ensure that department is appropriately stocked with part and tools needed to perform their job (10%)
  • Undertakes actions such as lubrication, cleaning, filter changes, etc, on equipment for preventive maintenance purposes (10%)
  • Replace broken or defective parts from stock parts and/or order replacement parts for major repairs (10%)
  • Modifies and tests equipment to improve systems uptime and reliability (10%)
  • Updates and reviews daily maintenance logs (10%)
  • Follows all safety policies and procedures strictly (10%)
JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education/ Certifications/or Equivalent combination of education training and experience:

  • 2-3 years of technical maintenance or related experience/training; or equivalent combination of education, experience and training

Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:

  • Understanding of Safety guidelines
  • Able to read and understand blueprints and technical reference manuals.
  • Understanding of equipment operation and maintenance procedures
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to work well independently

Good judgment is required for this position as there may be times when direct supervision may not be immediately available

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT/ DEMANDS
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and to stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently.
  • Ability to do repetitious arm, wrist and hand movements required for maintenance and service procedures.
  • Must be able to work with hands and arms overhead, and to work in or under the equipment.
  • Requires manual dexterity, overall coordination and good balance to work both at ground level and in high places to perform job duties. Ability to operate work related equipment
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

Compensation

UNFI anticipates paying the above-referenced pay rate (or within the above-referenced pay range) for this position. Actual Pay, where applicable, will depend on a number of factors, including, but not limited to, education, experience, training, and any requirements under applicable collective bargaining agreements.
