Job summary

UNFI is seeking a skilled warehouse equipment mechanic in California to repair and maintain forklifts, test repairs, and perform preventative maintenance across sit-down and stand-up equipment. You will diagnose electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical issues, use power tools, and keep precise maintenance records.

Candidates should have 3–5 years of trade school or equivalent experience and strong AC/DC electrical knowledge.

• Knowledge of hydraulics and welding.
• Ability to inspect, repair and operate scissor lifts.

Responsibilities

• Repair and maintain various forklifts (electric, gas, propane).
• Test forklifts to ensure repairs are correct; schedule and perform routine maintenance.
• Diagnose problems with motors, drive brakes, electronics, and hydraulics.
• Keep accurate records of maintenance and parts used; communicate issues to supervisor.

Purpose:

• Repairs and maintains various types of forklifts including electric, gas powered and propane powered.
• Tests forklift trucks to ensure repairs are completed correctly. Schedules and performs routine maintenance.

Essential Functions:

• Ensure proper maintenance of all material moving equipment including sit down fork, stand up fork, dock picker, pallet jacks and sanitation equipment.
• Diagnose problems related to motors, drive brakes, electronic, and hydraulic systems.
• Tear down, repair and reassemble equipment.
• Inspect, remove, and replace defective components and/or parts.
• Perform preventative maintenance programs on equipment.
• Identify and correct minor problems before they develop into a breakdown.
• Use of appropriate power and hand tools.
• Keep accurate records of preventative maintenance and all other work performed.
• Keep accurate records of parts used for inventory control and order with approvals, as required.
• Communicate with supervisor/manager daily regarding changes or problems with equipment.
• Clean work area/warehouse equipment.
• Other duties as required by management.
• Good judgment is required for this position as there may be times when direct supervision may not be immediately available.

Job Requirements:

• Must have own hand tools required for applicable areas (complete journeyman toolbox).

Experience:

• Three to five years trade school or equivalent material handling equipment maintenance experience.
• Must have electrical knowledge of AC/DC controls.
• Must have knowledge of hydraulics.
• Must have knowledge of welding and power tools.
• Must be able to inspect, repair and operate scissor lifts.

UNFI anticipates paying the above-referenced pay rate (or within the above-referenced pay range) for this position. Actual Pay, where applicable, will depend on a number of factors, including, but not limited to, education, experience, training, and any requirements under applicable collective bargaining agreements.
