Job summary

UNFI is seeking a Fleet Maintenance Mechanic to perform preventive maintenance on trailers, tractors, and yard tractors, diagnosing and repairing medium to heavy-duty refrigerated trucks and trailers.

Responsibilities include diagnosing brake, air, hydraulic, electrical, and HVAC systems, repairing liftgates, driveline components, and suspensions while maintaining accurate repair orders and mentoring junior mechanics. A valid CDL/driver's license is preferred and 21+ years old.

Qualifications

• Experience: 2 years mechanical or technical training with 1 year of experience preferred.
• Must have all necessary hand tools.
• Valid driver's license; 21+ years old preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance on trailers, tractors, and yard vehicles.
• Diagnose and repair brake, electrical, air, and HVAC systems as needed.
• Repair liftgate systems and fabrications as required.
• Diagnose drivelines, steering, and suspensions; maintain repair orders in RTA.

Position Purpose:

As a Fleet Maintenance Mechanic, you will perform preventive maintenance on trailers, tractors, and yard tractors, diagnosing and repairing medium to heavy-duty refrigerated trucks and trailers.

Essential Functions:

• Conduct preventive maintenance, inspections, and general repairs
• Diagnose and repair air and hydraulic brake systems, including ABS
• Perform electrical diagnostics and repairs
• Repair liftgate systems and fabricate as needed
• Diagnose drivelines, steering, and suspensions
• Maintain accurate repair order entries and time accountability in the RTA Maintenance Program
• Perform tire and wheel end maintenance
• Ensure quality work and production efficiency
• Mentor junior mechanics to enhance their skills
• Complete other relevant duties as required

Job Requirements:

• Experience: Preferred 2 years of mechanical experience or technical training with 1 year of experience
• Tools: Must have all necessary hand tools
• Driving Experience: Preferred experience in driving/moving Class A equipment
• Certifications: Tire and wheel, brakes, HVAC, and FHWA DOT Inspections preferred

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Ability to repair brakes, rear doors, air systems, and electrical systems with minimal supervision
• Strong teamwork and independent work skills
• Valid driver's license and must be 21 years of age or older

Physical Environment/Demands:

• Regularly required to stand, sit, and use hands for various tasks
• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform repetitive movements
• Exposure to temperatures ranging from 20 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit

Manual dexterity and coordination required for working at various heights and in confined spaces
