Job summary

University of California, Davis is seeking an on-site Large Animal Equine Medicine and Specialty Service Technician to support clinicians with nursing care, patient monitoring, and clinical procedures in the LA ICU/NICU and related services.

You will handle medications, assist with laboratory work, and participate in infection control while supporting education of students and staff in a busy teaching hospital environment.

Qualifications

• Must obtain VACSP permit within 3 months of hire.
• No minimum education required.
• Experience monitoring vital signs and administering PO, IV, SQ & IM meds.
• Extensive experience handling horses.
• Experience with equine medications and dose calculations.
• Knowledge of equine anatomy, behavior and physiology.
• Strong oral and written communication.
• Ability to handle difficult situations using problem solving.

Responsibilities

• 70% - Provide technical support to Large Animal Equine Medicine and Specialty Services.
• 15% - Enforce infectious disease control and sanitation practices.
• 10% - Provide technical support to other VMTH services.
• 5% - Perform basic laboratory tests and documentation.
