Job summary

SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University invites applications for a full-time Registered Nurse 1, NS71/73 Epilepsy. The RN1 delivers direct nursing care under NYS licensure, supervises care activities, and provides training to staff in a clinical Epilepsy unit.

Under Article 139, you will work with a multidisciplinary team to implement care plans, monitor patient conditions, and educate patients and families about treatment goals and procedures.

Qualifications

• Current NYS license as a Registered Professional Nurse.
• Ability to practice independently under Education Law and supervise staff.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and updates nursing care plans aligned with treatment plans.
• Administers medications and monitors patient conditions.
• Maintains accurate nursing notes and records (care plans, medications, treatments, vitals).
• Participates in development and revision of individualized care plans with the treatment team.
• Triages patients, assesses illnesses/injuries and directs to physician as needed.
• Educates patients and families on health, medications, and treatment goals.
• Ensures compliance with infection control policies and procedures.
• Trains paraprofessional staff in nursing techniques and equipment use.
