Job summary

Stamford Health is seeking an Epic Technical Manager to lead the Epic environment strategy, change control, and upgrade planning. You will coordinate with Information Services and clinical teams to ensure successful deployments and compliance.

Strong leadership and healthcare domain knowledge are essential. The role includes staffing, performance planning, and driving process improvements to enhance patient care and data integrity across Epic modules.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience implementing and/or supporting Epic to improve patient care.
  • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience.
  • Two Epic certifications including one in Beacon, Beaker, Cupid, or Radiant.
  • Completion of Epic CEE to maintain certifications and proficiency.
  • Experience managing staff in a matrix-management model.
  • Experience working with clinicians, especially physicians.
  • Strong leadership, communication and diversity advocacy.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with implementation, documentation, and go-live support for new Epic modules.

Responsibilities

The Epic Technical acts as a thought leader and liaison to the Information Services team on improvements to the Epic technical infrastructure and release management process. This includes, but is not limited to, the development of business processes that change management process improving patient safety, quality, reduction of administrative cost, and adhering to regulatory compliance.

The Epic Technical Manager (ETM) defines and implements the change control processes and coordinates key Epic environment activities including updates, upgrades, and build migration. This occurs within close collaboration with the Information Services and clinical teams.

The ETM will assist with managing application upgrades with Epic by setting timelines, maintaining continuous communication, and addressing issues. In addition, assisting with implementation, documentation, and go live support of new Epic modules, updates, etc. This includes assisting in planning, and execution in the release management process.

The ETM manages their team in accordance with SH priorities, department goals and strategic objectives. The Manager requires the skills and experience to be a thought leader, solution provider, relationship maker, staff manager, clinical and financial business partner.

This position requires strong healthcare clinical acumen in the clinical fields under their support responsibility. The responsibilities also require an understanding of HIPAA, CMS regulations, other healthcare rules and regulations and an awareness of the importance of cyber security.

  • Understands core clinical workflows, processes, and interdependencies. Research trends and best practices in relation to healthcare application software. Promotes workflow analysis, process redesign and adoption of software tools for performance improvement.
  • Develop, lead, and mentor staff responsible for analysis, build and overall project delivery. Regularly perform gap analysis on resources to maintain optimum efficiency.
  • Provide leadership by identifying and communicating strategy on relevant areas of oversight for process improvement.
  • Assist with formulation of annual and supplemental departmental planning based on these metrics including performance appraisals of staff accountable for the individual metric.
  • Developing, communicating, and managing the Epic environment strategy, including data migration methods and schedules
  • Developing new or enhancing existing change control processes to include Epic components and buildEstablishing a sign-off process for Release Authorizations (RAs) from Epic
  • Participating in or leading change control, upgrade planning, maintenance window planning, and go-live planning committees
  • Designing data migration strategies and managing large data loads
  • Coordinating and managing the Epic upgrade and update activities of the application and technical team leads
  • Tracking update and patch levels for each production and non-production environment and servers
  • Creating and maintaining documentation for use in infrastructure configuration, maintenance, and upgrade planning
  • Communicating information about environment activities (refreshes, maintenance windows, upgrades, patches) and enforcing proper environment use for build, testing, and training to project team and end users
  • Provides technical/clinical workflow guidance including application configuration. Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates systems needs to develop recommendations for our clinical care teams.
  • Facilitate the implementation process and workflow redesign associated with the ancillary applications. Advise staff on the adoption of processes that improve efficiency with all applications. This includes, but is not limited to, software evaluation, project management, resource planning, process change, application training, dictionary build, application testing, integration testing, data conversion and production support.
  • Performs other special projects and duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience (5 years in a leadership capacity) implementing and/or supporting Epic applications to improve patient care.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working with Epic
  • Obtain, if not already certified, two Epic certifications including one in Beacon, Beaker, Cupid, or Radiant.
  • Complete/Completed Epic CEE (Continued Epic Education) to maintain certifications, proficiencies, and badges
  • Experience working with and managing staff in a matrix-management model.
  • Experience working with clinicians, especially physicians, is also required.
