Job description

Epic Instructional Designer

The Epic Instructional Designer is responsible for creating and maintaining effective training materials and learning experiences for Epic applications and related healthcare technology. This role works closely with Epic application teams, trainers, clinical and operational subject matter experts, and leadership to ensure training content is accurate, easy to understand, and aligned with organizational workflows.

The Instructional Designer will develop curriculum, job aids, e-learning, presentations, and other educational resources to support Epic implementations, system updates, and ongoing employee education.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain training materials for Epic applications and workflows.
  • Create instructor-led training, e-learning, job aids, guides, presentations, and other learning resources.
  • Work with Epic application analysts and subject matter experts to understand system functionality and clinical and business workflows.
  • Translate complex Epic functionality into clear, user-friendly training content.
  • Review and update curriculum when Epic functionality, workflows, policies, or procedures change.
  • Support Epic implementations, upgrades, and go-live training activities.
  • Ensure training materials are accurate, consistent, and aligned with organizational standards.
  • Collaborate with trainers and application teams to prepare effective training programs.
  • Assess training needs and recommend appropriate learning solutions.
  • Apply adult learning and instructional design principles to training development.
  • Support continuous improvement by gathering feedback and updating training programs.
  • Provide training support during Epic implementations and go-live events as needed.
Required Qualifications
  • Must be currently credentialed in at least two Epic modules/applications.
  • Must have participated in at least one Epic implementation project that resulted in a successful go-live event.
  • Experience in instructional design, curriculum development, or healthcare training.
  • At least two years of experience developing, editing, and maintaining training curriculum.
  • Strong knowledge of adult learning and instructional design principles.
  • Working knowledge of Epic functionality and healthcare clinical/business workflows.
  • Experience developing training materials, job aids, e-learning, presentations, or other educational resources.
  • Strong written, verbal, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with Epic application analysts, trainers, clinical staff, operational leaders, and other stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain Epic credentials and meet applicable Epic credentialing requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Epic credentials in more than two applications.
  • Experience providing floor support during an Epic go-live.
  • Healthcare IT or clinical workflow experience.
  • Experience working with Epic training environments.
  • Experience with learning management systems and e-learning development tools.
  • Experience creating simulations, videos, interactive learning, or other digital training content.
  • Experience collaborating with Epic application teams on system implementations, upgrades, and optimization projects.
