Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL seeks an experienced Epic Analyst to participate in analysis, design, and ongoing support of Epic systems critical to healthcare operations. To maintain positive relationships with stakeholders and optimize performance for clinical workflows.

Responsibilities include on-call support, project leadership, and collaboration with physicians, nurses, and IT staff. Epic certification and strong analytical skills are required for success in a fast-paced health system

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in IT or related field and healthcare application experience.
  • Epic certification in area of support or within 12 weeks of training with limited attempts.
  • Strong knowledge of inpatient orders, Epic configuration, and clinical workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Lead identification and gathering of requirements for clinical workflows.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting, visualizations, and documentation for Epic functionality.
  • Lead multiple projects, guide peers, and ensure change control and documentation.
  • Define system performance criteria and ensure HIPAA and security compliance.
  • Participate in on-call duties and develop collaborative user support processes.
  • Mentor Level I/II analysts and coordinate cross-application testing.

Job Description

To participate in the analysis, design, implementation, and ongoing support of software critical to healthcare operations. To maintain positive relationships with stakeholders. To optimize performance to ensure the system effectively supports healthcare operations. To stay current on technological advancements and adapts to new developments. To provide ongoing system support through on-call duties, monitoring, and maintenance.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
  • Leads the identification and evaluation of business needs and gathering of requirements for clinical workflows. Partners with others in support of healthcare operations to accomplish team goals.
  • Provides advanced troubleshooting skills, visualizations and documentation to analyze and monitor current clinical system functionality as well as evaluate new request of Epic functionality.
  • Leads multiple projects of varying complexity and guides their peers in the groups/teams they are a part of to follow change control processes to develop, build, test, and implement planned changes with associated technical and functional documentation of Epic systems.
  • Defines system performance criteria and demonstrates extensive knowledge of common industry concepts and practices while guiding the operational practices of clinical applications, mitigating risk related to system operations of Epic systems.
  • Guides the investigation of systems enhancements and corrections as well as technical best practices related to Epic system operations.
  • Assumes on-call duties as needed to provide user support per the established framework. Develops the procedures and processes to establish a collaborative user support framework which addresses hardware, software, and process issues at all times (24/7). Exhibits excellent customer service and problem-solving skills
  • Leads multiple projects of varying complexity and guides their peers in the groups/teams they are a part of to follow change control processes to develop, build, test, and implement planned changes with associated technical and functional documentation of Epic systems.
  • Ensures compliance and security by following policies and regulations. Participates in annual training to maintain knowledge of HIPAA, security, and other applicable regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or a related field and six (6) years of healthcare application support experience required. Work experience may substitute for education requirement.

Epic certification in area of support or certification obtained within 12 weeks of completing Epic training with no more than two (2) testing attempts required.

Preferred Skills
  • Epic Inpatient Orders certification required; additional Epic certifications preferred
  • 3+ years of Epic application analyst experience with advanced Inpatient Orders expertise
  • Advanced knowledge of Epic Inpatient Orders build, configuration, troubleshooting, and clinical workflows
  • Extensive experience with orderables, preference lists, order sets, panels, and complex ordering workflows
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing, maintaining, and optimizing complex Epic Order Sets
  • Experience with Order Set charter development, clinical content governance, and enterprise approval processes
  • Advanced knowledge of EAPs and related Epic master files
  • Experience analyzing complex ordering dependencies and downstream impacts across multiple Epic applications
  • Strong understanding of integrations between Inpatient Orders and ClinDoc, ASAP, Grand Central, Stork, Willow, Beaker, Radiant, Optime, and other clinical applications
  • Proven experience leading Epic implementations, upgrades, optimization initiatives, and complex enhancement projects
  • Demonstrated ability to independently translate complex clinical and operational requirements into sustainable Epic solutions
  • Experience leading integrated testing and coordinating cross-application initiatives
  • Strong understanding of Epic Foundation System and best-practice workflows
  • Experience facilitating clinical content discussions with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, clinical leadership, and operational stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to serve as a subject matter expert and escalation point for complex issues
  • Experience mentoring Level I and Level II analysts and providing technical guidance
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, project management, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to independently manage multiple complex priorities and initiatives
