Job summary

Carter Machinery Co. Inc. invites applications for the Electric Power Generation (EPG) Rental Apprentice Technician role in Elkridge, VA. This 15‑month program trains you to troubleshoot, diagnose, inspect, maintain, and repair engines and related electrical systems on generators and automatic transfer switches.

You will gain foundational knowledge in engine and electrical fundamentals, NFPA70E safety, and hands-on experience, with paid training and progression toward certification.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completion of K-12 vocational program in Electrical or Mechanical related course.
• Post-secondary diesel engine or related program or two years of mechanical job experience preferred.
• Military equipment experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and diagnose engines and related electrical systems on generators and transfer switches.
• Inspect, maintain and repair engines and electrical systems.
• Read and understand operating manuals and prepare accurate service reports.
• Document work orders, parts lists and time cards accurately and timely.
• Promote a positive customer experience and uphold Carter Way core values.
• Work all shifts as needed to meet customer needs.
