Job summary

Northeast Georgia Health System is seeking a dedicated Cath Lab / EP Lab technician to assist physicians in cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology procedures, while maintaining a sterile field and ensuring patient safety. You will prepare the room, assist with devices, and document procedures in the EMR.

Under supervision of a credentialed physician, you will demonstrate strong interpersonal and technical skills and participate in ongoing staff development and quality improvement

Qualifications

• RCIS, RRT, CRT, RT or RCVT required; EMT-P license accepted in lieu of registry.
• BLS and ACLS certification required.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum 1 year work experience in registry or licensed field.

Responsibilities

• Functions as a scrub assistant to the credentialed Physician throughout the procedure.
• Preps the procedure room and equipment and maintains sterile technique.
• Assists with catheter and device handling (catheters, guidewires) and supplies.
• Operates fluoroscopy and digital radiology equipment as needed.
• Documents procedures in EMR and ensures accurate charges.
• Mentors and assists with orientation of new staff and PI activities.

Performs various procedures that require independent judgment and high level of skill proficiency. Assists with care of critically ill patients. Preps the procedure room and equipment for procedure to be performed, to include cleaning, removal of trash, and restocking of room between cases. Maintains sterile technique throughout invasive procedures. Prepares for procedure in terms of sterile supplies required. Ensures patients are prepped and draped appropriately, maintaining privacy and confidentiality. Assists the Physician during the specialized procedure as evidenced by knowledge of selected equipment, selection and care of catheters, guidewires, and other necessary supplies. Trained in vascular sheath removal with adequate hemostasis. If credentialed, has ability to deploy vascular closure devices using proper sterile technique. Performs and rotates through functions of scrub, circulating (not administering medications), and monitoring positions.* **Demonstrates the ability to operate/maintain specialized equipment.**Sets up, operates, and troubleshoots fluoroscopy and digital radiological equipment. Ensures that required pre-, intra-, and post- procedure documentation is present and accurate when documenting in employee EMR. Prepares and operates specialized equipment found in the EP Lab environment. Performs and documents daily operational functions on procedure room equipment on designated documentation form. Ensures that patient procedures/supply charges are accurate.* **Assumes responsibility for own personal and professional development.** Assists in orientation of new staff and/or serves as a mentor. Assists with supervision of prn staff. Serves as a facilitator between staff and Manager providing feedback as necessary. Completes unit based skills annually. Attends mandatory educational classes pertaining to new equipment, procedures, supplies, and new technology. Responsible for continuing education for required certifications.
