Job summary

Olathe Health in Kansas is seeking an Electrophysiology Tech II to assist with diagnostic, interventional, and therapeutic procedures in the EP lab under supervision. The role requires monitoring patients during invasive procedures and maintaining sterile conditions to ensure safety and efficiency.

The EP Tech II provides technical support, troubleshoots daily issues, documents data, and collaborates with anesthesia, physicians, and nurses to deliver excellent patient care.

Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in Radiologic Technology or Cardiovascular Technology or related field with Cardiac Cath Lab/EP Lab experience.
  • ACLS and BLS certifications required.
  • Knowledge of cardiac anatomy and hemodynamics demonstrated by 3+ years of experience.
  • Experience with multiple imaging, hemodynamic, and medical record systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in transporting patient to nursing units and monitor during EP procedures.
  • Provide patient comfort and safety measures during procedures.
  • Scrub and provide instruments to cardiologist during procedures.
  • Prepare lab rooms and equipment, maintain asepsis and instrument counts.
  • Document hemodynamic, electrical, angiographic data and case progression.

Position Summary / Career Interest Under the direction of the Electrophysiologist and the Nurse Manager, the electrophysiology technician II performs essential duties to assist the medical staff with the performance of diagnostic, interventional and therapeutic procedures within the electrophysiology lab setting. Monitoring and observing of patients during invasive procedures. Ensures that procedures are performed safely and efficiently. Provides and ensures a sterile procedural area. Assists during emergency interventions, responds to patient distress situations and assists with equipment, quality control, and inventory management. Functions in a high activity level, fast paced environment to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The Electrophysiology Tech II is highly trained and experienced in the Electrophysiology Lab. They are able to troubleshoot daily technical issues. Provide technical and analytical support during invasive diagnostic procedures. Excellent communication, organizational and leadership skills. Advanced knowledge of cardiac anatomy and hemodynamics. Proficient in providing hemodynamic management and cardiac rhythm interpretations. Ability to monitor all procedures. Ability to assist and scrub for all diagnostic and interventional procedures. Recognizes changes in patient status and condition and report those immediately to the proper medical staff. Demonstrates knowledge of specific cardiac conditions and diseases and possible treatments (under the guidance of the physician). Participates in late team schedule. Understands and follows all hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Maintains accurate and complete documentation. Serves as a patient advocate and works in conjunction with anesthesia, physicians, nurses and other medical staff to provide excellent patient care.

  • Perform chest tube drainage system set up
  • Performs Cardioversion, Defibrillation and Pacing
  • Manifold Setup and Operation
  • Stereotaxis Set Up, discuss safety, and ability to troubleshoot issues
  • RF generator ATAKR, Stockard, IBI-1500O, Maestro 3000, and adapt to new technology as it evolves.
  • Circulates during electrophysiology procedures.
  • Participates in late team schedule.
  • Prepares patient and equipment for electrophysiology procedures by maintaining asepsis, instrument count, specimen care, dressing application, preparing site of entry, draping patient, arranging sterilized instruments and catheters, and calibrating and setting up pressure transducers and tubing.
  • Prepares the electrophysiology lab procedure rooms by ensuring the adequate stock is available.
  • Scrubs during procedure, provides appropriate instrumentation to cardiologist, and assists the physician in maneuvering catheters.
  • Prepares instruments and supplies for sterilization, cleans and decontaminates instruments and equipment, assist in cleaning/preparing EP lab for next.
  • Accurately obtains and documents hemodynamic, electrical, angiographic, case progression and supply data.
  • Perform other duties as described.
  • Participate in life-saving measures such as defibrillation and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Safely and accurately operates a variety of complex equipment including but not limited to: electrical amplifiers, fluoroscopy equipment, hemodynamic monitoring, generators, and recording systems.
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education And Experience
  • High School Graduate
  • Associates Degree in Radiologic Technology OR
  • Associates Degree Cardiovascular Technology ro Vascular Technology OR
  • Associates Degree Healthcare related field, plus previous experience in a Cardiac Cath Lab, Interventional Radiology or Electrophysiology Lab OR
  • Bachelors Degree Healthcare related field, plus previous experience in a Cardiac Cath Lab, Interventional Radiology or Electrophysiology Lab OR
  • Graduate of a non-accredited program in invasive cardiovascular technology and previous experience in a Cardiac Cath Lab, Interventional Radiology, or Electrophysiology Lab
Required Licensure And Certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Basic Life Support Heartsaver (BLS HS) (Non-Clinical) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) OR
  • Nuclear Medicine Technology (N) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) OR
  • Radiation Therapy (T) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) OR
  • Radiography (R) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) OR
  • Sonography (S) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) OR
  • Vascular Sonography (VS) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) OR
  • 3 or more years of experience in lieu of registration

  • Advanced knowledge of cardiac anatomy and pathophysiology demonstrated by at least 3 years of experience.
  • Knowledge of radiation safety.
  • Knowledge in computer based imaging and hemodynamic management demonstrated by at least 3 years of experience.
  • High, ability to learn and use multiple imaging, hemodynamic, and medical record systems
  • Advanced EKG interpretation proficiency preferred
  • Advanced EGM interpretation proficiency preferred
  • Advanced cardiac mapping proficiency preferred
