Job summary

Baystate Health seeks a Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (CIS)/Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (CES) to join a patient care team at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA. The role covers cardiovascular, neurovascular and peripheral vascular procedures with emphasis on safety and high-quality outcomes.

The CIS/CES will scrub, assist the physician, monitor EKG/hemodynamics, manage equipment, and participate in on-call rotations.

Qualifications

• An accredited CVT or RT program completed or in progress.
• ACLS and BLS certifications maintained.
• RCIS/RCES certification planned within 3 years if eligible.

Responsibilities

• Participates in team huddle/time-out and all aspects of the procedure.
• Acts as a first assistant during cardiovascular and neurovascular procedures.
• Maintains, ACLS and Healthcare Provider BLS certifications.
• Operates and maintains diagnostic and therapeutic equipment under physician direction.
• Prepares the patient for the procedure in prep/recovery areas.
• Explain the process and reinforce patient teachings throughout the procedure.
• Sets up non-invasive monitoring (EKG, BP, pulse oximetry).
• Preps and drapes patients using aseptic technique.
• Advances guide wires and catheters under fluoroscopic guidance.
• Obtains invasive hemodynamic data and blood samples as required.

Summary:

Under the management Cardiac Interventional Services Manager, the Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (CIS)/Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (CES) is a part of a patient care team that performs various cardiac, neuro and peripheral vascular diagnostic and interventional procedures. The CIS must possess expertise in the theory and application of cardiovascular/peripheral vascular disease process, procedures specific to their specialty, as well as aseptic technique. The CIS/CES will be able to anticipate the next steps of the procedure by constant attention and assessment of the process and patient condition to promote a safe, expedient, quality patient outcome and positive patient experience. The CIS/CES will scrub and assist the physician at the procedural table. They will also monitor, identify and record pertinent EKG and hemodynamic data. They will submit charges and document chronological events of the procedure. They will set up,operate and may troubleshoot Equipment pertinent to their specialty. RCIS - Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP), Rotoblator, Impella, Fractional Flow Reserve (FFR), Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS), CSI in addition to any new technologies. CES - Mapping, Programming, Recording with systems common to the field of electrophysiology. They will act as a resource to the physician by understanding the potential application, risks and benefits of all available procedural supplies and equipment. They will anticipate, gather and deliver required items to the sterile field using aseptic technique. The CIS will be an active member of a 24/7 call team supporting Cardiac and Neurological emergencies.

Job Responsibilities:

• Maintains, AHA certification in ACLS and Healthcare Provider BLS.
• Operates and maintains all diagnostic and therapeutic equipment under the direction of the performing physician.
• Prepares the patient for the procedure in prep/recovery area and procedure room.
• Explain the process and reinforce patient teachings throughout the procedure.
• Sets up non-invasive monitoring. (EKG,BP, Pulse Oximetry, etc.)
• Preps and drapes patients using appropriate aseptic and sterile techniques.
• Facilitate insertion and manipulation of guide wires and catheters into vasculature under fluoroscopic guidance for cardiovascular and Neurovascular procedures.
• Obtains invasive hemodynamic data, cardiac output, and blood samples as required by procedure.
• Injects contrast manually or with the aid of a mechanical contrast device to visualize cardiovascular anatomical structures(angiography).
• Manages diagnostic and therapeutic modalities. (FFR, IMPELLA, IABP, Angiojet, Rotoblator, CSI) CIS.
• Performs Point of Care testing.
• Assist and performs emergency resuscitation.
• Performs patient monitoring as well as complete and accurate documentation of all aspects of the procedure - captures and inputs data for procedural calculations.
• Manages access site and hemostasis, manual sheath removal.
• Attends staff meetings, in-service, and other designated training events that will enhance clinical and other required skills.
• Performs the minimum of on-call rotations as determined by staffing requirements and manager discretion to ensure competency is maintained. (CIS)
• Dysrhythmia recognition.
• Obtains RCES/RCIS within 3 years of Hire, if eligible for the exam.

The compensation range(s) in the table below represent the base salaries for all positions at a given grade across the health system. Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non-exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees.
