Job description

Verde Law, PLLC is a Miami-based immigration law firm dedicated to defending immigrants and their families in the U.S. immigration court system. Removal defense is at the core of what we do, including asylum, cancellation of removal, bond, and the full range of relief litigated before EOIR, and we represent people during some of the highest-stakes moments of their lives.

What sets us apart is how we treat our clients. Removal proceedings are long, stressful, and deeply personal, and we believe every client deserves to feel informed, supported, and genuinely cared for at every step. We pair rigorous courtroom advocacy with exceptional, compassionate client service, and we're looking for a trial-minded attorney who shares that commitment.

The Role

We're seeking a skilled, dedicated, and compassionate EOIR Immigration Attorney to represent our clients in removal and humanitarian matters before the immigration courts (EOIR), with supporting affirmative practice before USCIS. You'll own your cases from strategy through resolution, developing legal theories, drafting motions and briefs, preparing clients and witnesses, and advocating in master calendar hearings, individual/merits hearings, and bond hearings.

Just as importantly, you'll help set the standard for the warm, client-first service our firm is known for, and mentor the paralegals who support your cases. For clients facing detention, a removal order, or a slow and frightening system, you are their advocate and their steady source of honest counsel. If you combine sharp legal judgment and strong courtroom advocacy with genuine empathy and a true service mindset, you'll thrive here.

Key Responsibilities
Removal Defense & Courtroom Advocacy (the heart of this role)
  • Represent clients in removal proceedings before EOIR, including master calendar hearings, individual/merits hearings, and bond/custody redetermination hearings
  • Represent detained clients, including bond hearings and merits hearings for individuals held in detention facilities
  • Develop case strategy and legal theories for removal defense and humanitarian relief
  • Conduct direct and cross-examination; prepare clients and witnesses to testify
  • Handle Cuban Adjustment Act matters in court, asylum-only proceedings, and other relief
  • Draft persuasive briefs and legal memoranda; manage IJ filing deadlines and call-ups via ECAS/EOIR eFiling
  • Negotiate with OPLA/ICE counsel on prosecutorial discretion, stipulations, and bond
  • Handle BIA appeals and support federal court matters where appropriate
  • Review and finalize declarations and evidentiary submissions prepared by the paralegal team
Affirmative & USCIS Support
  • Represent clients in asylum and adjustment interviews before USCIS
Client Counseling & Service
  • Counsel clients on their options, risks, and realistic outcomes in clear, plain language
  • Communicate with empathy, patience, and professionalism in both English and Spanish
  • Handle sensitive conversations, including with traumatized, detained, or anxious clients, with compassion and a calm, reassuring presence
  • Set and manage expectations honestly, keeping clients informed at every stage
  • Treat every client like a person, not a case number
Leadership & Compliance
  • Supervise and mentor paralegals and legal staff, reviewing their work for accuracy and quality
  • Maintain the highest standards of professional ethics and Florida Bar compliance
  • Accurately document case strategy, legal advice, and client interactions in the case file
  • Manage a full removal caseload with diligence, organization, and unwavering attention to deadlines
Required Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Active membership in good standing with a U.S. state bar (Florida Bar preferred)
  • Minimum 1 year of immigration law experience with hands-on EOIR practice (USCIS experience a plus)
  • Courtroom experience representing clients in removal proceedings before the immigration courts
  • Demonstrated experience with asylum, cancellation of removal, and/or bond hearings
  • Fluency in English and Spanish, spoken and written, essential for serving our clients
  • Excellent legal research, brief-writing, and oral advocacy skills
  • Outstanding client-counseling skills, warm, professional, and able to build trust quickly
  • Empathy and emotional intelligence, with composure during difficult or emotional conversations
  • Sound legal judgment, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage a demanding docket under deadlines
  • You treat every client like a person, not a case number
  • You combine rigorous lawyering with real compassion
  • You're a confident advocate who stays calm, warm, and steady when the stakes are high
  • You take real pride in being prepared, dependable, and following through
  • You care deeply about defending immigrant communities
What We Offer
  • A supportive, collaborative team that invests in your growth
  • Modern, technology-forward systems that let you do your best work
  • Meaningful work defending families and individuals and protecting their futures
  • Competitive compensation and performance bonuses
  • Paid time off and holidays
