Job Description

General Responsibilities:

The Environmental Technician will perform various testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials such as soils, concrete, masonry, reinforcing steel, and asphalt. You will communicate with Project Managers, client representatives, contractor's representatives, and other key stakeholders regarding testing and inspection results. Tests are performed on building construction projects. Successful candidates will receive in-depth technical training and professional certifications as they advance in the position.

Responsibilities include performing tests and sampling of environmental materials including air, groundwater, building materials, and noise; operating field monitoring equipment; assisting with operation and maintenance of remediation systems; assisting with asbestos surveys, abatement projects, and Phase I preliminary site assessments; transporting material samples or documents to the lab for testing and analysis; tabulating and preparing data for reports; and cleaning and maintaining field monitoring equipment.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Perform standardized and complex field tests and special inspections as required.
  • Calibrate field monitoring equipment such as PID or combustible gas indicators.
  • Sample suspect asbestos-containing building materials following AHERA guidelines.
  • Assist with installation and maintenance of remediation systems.
  • Support drill crews in obtaining soil and groundwater samples.
  • Oversee and monitor air during asbestos abatement projects.
  • Conduct monitoring well sampling.
  • Perform complex field tasks under supervision.
  • Follow safety rules and participate in pre-task planning.
  • Maintain quality standards on all projects.
  • Regional overnight travel may be required based on project needs.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience or equivalent training.
  • Obtain ACI certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.

Preferred Certifications:

  • Certification in radiation safety and Nuclear Density Gauge operations.
  • Other environmental certifications requiring experience and examination may be considered.
