Job summary

Jobtailor in Wisconsin seeks a Safety Technician to assist the Senior Safety Engineer in monitoring the facility and employees, ensuring safe, healthy, and regulatory-compliant working conditions. You will schedule and conduct airborne lead monitoring and audiometric testing, perform safety audits, and maintain safety records.

Responsibilities include leading safety training, PPE management, incident investigation, and participation in safety committees.

Qualifications

  • Two years of experience in manufacturing, industrial safety, or industrial hygiene.
  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • 60 credits toward a Industrial Safety degree is desirable but not essential.
  • Some coursework in Industrial Hygiene is preferable.
  • English language skills are required.
  • Ability to understand algebra, units, measurement conversions and calibration techniques.
  • Ability to obtain CAOHC certification as an Occupational Hearing Conservationist.

  • Stock, order, and clean PPE and first-aid equipment.
  • Schedule, conduct, and evaluate audiometric tests.
  • Track, file, and maintain safety and health databases and records.
  • Coordinate blood-lead draws, notifications, and laboratory sample evaluation.
  • Schedule and conduct respirator fit tests.
  • Update MSDS binders and stock chemical labels.
  • Investigate incidents and develop corrective action plans.
  • Schedule, conduct, participate in, and/or lead safety and ergonomics committees.
  • Identify, assign, and clean employee lockers.
  • Develop and coordinate safety incentive programs.
  • Coordinate and provide first-responder and first-aid duties.
  • Develop, maintain, and revise safety, health, and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Schedule and conduct wipe tests to evaluate hygiene and cleaning methods.
  • Perform other assigned duties.

Requirements
  • Minimum of two years of experience related to manufacturing, industrial safety, or industrial hygiene
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Completion of at least 60 credit hours toward a degree in Industrial Safety or related field is desirable, but not essential
  • Completion of some coursework in Industrial Hygiene is preferable
  • English language skills
  • Understanding of algebra, scientific units, measurement conversions, and general calibration techniques
  • Analytical ability to determine cause and effect relationships
  • Fundamental keyboarding skills
  • Ability to understand Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, Baan, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to obtain certification as an Occupational Hearing Conservationist from CAOHC
  • Proficiency in reading, speech, and technical writing
  • Knowledge of basic chemistry
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work irregular and changing hours, including alternate shifts, with little notice
  • Some overnight travel for training and certification purposes
  • Ability to work in a lead-exposed environment and be qualified to wear respiratory protection
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing setting with moving equipment and traverse from plant to plant daily
  • Visual acuity to view incidents or hazards
  • Ability to hear alarms or alerts during first-response activityAbility to sit while preparing reports and collecting data
